2018 ITA Tennis Academic Awards Release

The College of Wooster men's tennis team earned a trio of Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete certificates, while the Fighting Scots were also among the squads recognized by the organization on Tuesday as an All-Academic Team.

Senior Titas Bera earned his third ITA Scholar-Athlete certificate, while first-years Luke Borgelt and Saeed Husain were also recognized.

Bera, who last week became the first student-athlete in program history to earn a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, was ranked as high as eighth in the ITA Central Region Rankings this spring, thanks in large part to a 12-match winning streak to kick start the spring season. Bera capped his career with a fourth All-North Coast Athletic Conference certificate, and earned a spot on the College Sports Information Directors of America Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team.

Borgelt made the most of his opportunities during his debut season, and his signature match came while playing with Bera in doubles against Curry College. The duo went on to win the match 8-3, and the Scots went on to blank the Colonels 9-0.

Husain emerged as the Scots' primary sixth singles player, and a 6-3, 6-4 win over North Central College's Lucas Pindak and a 6-1, 6-1 victory over archrival Wittenberg University's Austin Grote were among his five wins in the flight.

Wooster won eight matches this past year, headlined by a 9-0 blanking of Ohio Athletic Conference runner-up the University of Mount Union.

ITA Scholar-Athlete status is awarded to varsity letterwinners with at least a 3.50 GPA for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters. ITA All-Academic Team criteria takes into account the current academic year GPAs for all varsity letterwinners, and must be at least a 3.20.
