Devereux, Hanna Lead Scots at Oberlin Invitational

Junior Nathan Devereux and first-year Austin Hanna accounted for seven of The College of Wooster men's tennis team's nine wins over the weekend at the Oberlin College Invitational.

Devereux and Hanna opened the weekend with an impressive 8-5 win over Oberlin's Sam Topper and James Dill, and the duo followed that up by topping Case Western Reserve University's Earl Hsieh and Siddharth Rajupet by an identical coun

In singles play, Devereux didn't drop a set on the weekend. The Finksburg, Md., native opened with 6-1, 6-0 win over Allegheny College's Cooper Miller on Saturday. The following day, Devereux and Dill squared off in singles play with Devereux winning a tightly-contested first set 7-5 before pulling away down the stretch with a 6-2 win in set two. Devereux's weekend wrapped up with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Earlham College's Gordian Bruns.

Hanna breezed past John Carroll University's Andy Siciliano 6-1, 6-0, and also beat Tiffin University's Austin Mohamedali 6-2, 6-3.

First-year Nebyou Minassie rounded out the singles winners, as he took a match over Allegheny's Jacob Stinger by a 6-0, 6-2 count.

In doubles action, sophomores Luke Borgelt and Wyatt Brugge topped Ashland University's Shivam Patel and Chase Williams 8-6 on Saturday.

Up next, Wooster has its first dual match of the year on Friday, Sept. 21. The Fighting Scots travel to the University of Mount Union for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
