Scots Get First NCAC East Win, Defeat Allegheny 8-1

Nathan Devereux picked up wins in singles and doubles action against Allegheny on Saturday.

The College of Wooster men's tennis team defeated Allegheny College 8-1 and picked up their first win in the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division.

Everything was decided in straight sets as Wooster claimed all singles matches and the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights.

The No. 2 team of Nathan Devereux and Austin Hanna along with the No. 3 team of Jesse DeWitt and Nebyou Minassie took 8-2 wins to give Wooster an early 2-1 edge. 

Alon Liberman then made quick work of his No. 2 counterpart 6-3, 6-1. Devereux took a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 4 flight, and Wooster clinched the win in Hanna's 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 3 slot.

Elsewhere, Joaquin Abos Amo defeated Wonjoon Cho 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 flight. Wooster then wrapped up the match with Minassie winning 7-5, 6-0 in the No. 5 flight, and DeWitt winning 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.

Wooster is now 7-10 on the year and 1-2 in the conference, while Allegheny drops to 10-7 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC East.

Next, the men will travel to Oberlin College to face Case Western Reserve University and Hope College.
