Men's Tennis Defeats Lake Forest for First Win in Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team is more than halfway through its spring break trip and is coming off its first win of the trip in a 5-4 victory over Lake Forest College on Thursday.

Wooster needed four singles wins after taking just one doubles match but did exactly that. Anthony VanOyen and Arnav Yadav got the job done on both sides as they paired to win a crucial No. 2 doubles match, 8-7 (4).

VanOyen later won his No. 2 singles flight, 6-2, 6-2, while Yadav won in the No. 3 flight by the same score.

Jay Dixit won the No. 1 flight rather convincingly, 6-0, 6-3. That led to Max Stratford taking the victory in the No. 6 flight, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (7), which gave Wooster its fifth point and the match.

Earlier this week, Wooster could only muster a pair of wins in its opening match in a 7-2 loss versus Shenandoah University.

After being swept in doubles play, Wooster picked up wins in the No. 2 and No. 4 singles flights. VanOyen won 7-5, 7-5 in the No. 2 flight, while Arnav Yadav won 6-4, 7-5 in the No. 4 flight.

The next day, Wooster got closer but took another loss, falling to Carroll University 5-4.

This time, Wooster got a win in the No. 2 doubles flight as VanOyen and Shivam Dewan teamed for an 8-4 win.

VanOyen also was successful in the No. 2 singles flight, winning 6-4, 6-4. Yadav picked up another win, this time at the No. 3 flight, 6-0, 7-5, and Dewan took the No. 4 flight, 6-3, 6-1.

Elsewhere, Jay Dixit fell in a tight No. 1 singles flight, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (5).

Next, Wooster (5-4) has two more matches left in Hilton Head Island. They take on St. Ambrose University on Saturday and Grinnell College on Monday.
