Scots Put Up Fight Versus 12th-Ranked Denison

The College of Wooster men's tennis team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play with a tough task on Friday as they fell to 12th-ranked Denison University 9-0.

The Scots played outside on the new courts Friday, which features 12 new courts and a new video system to allow streaming on all courts.

Unfortunately, the 12th-ranked Big Red (6-3, 1-0 NCAC) were just a bit too much for the Scots (6-6, 0-1 NCAC).

First-year Jay Dixit led the Scots, keeping 19th-ranked Ethan Green on his toes in their No. 1 singles match. Yet, Green took a tight first set and that carried him to a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win.

Dixit also had a close No. 2 doubles match as he teamed with Namit Misra in an 8-6 loss.

In the other doubles matches, Anthony VanOyen and Arnav Yadav took an 8-2 loss against the eighth-ranked team of Green and Kael Shah.

In the No. 3 flight, Walker Wood and Bennett Dickerson fell 8-0.

VanOyen faced another of Denison's ranked opponents in the No. 2 singles flight, falling to the 17th-ranked Shah 6-4, 6-2.

Yadav had the second closest match of the day but fell in the No. 3 flight to Ryan Patrick 7-6 (4), 6-4.

Elsewhere, Misra and Max Stratford each took 6-0, 6-0 losses in the No. 4 and No. 5 flights, respectively. Dickerson fell 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 6 flight.

Next, Wooster will travel to Indiana to face Wabash College on April 6 and DePauw University on April 7.
