Scots Edged By Little Giants

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team began its Indiana trip on Saturday, falling to Wabash College 5-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The Scots, who were trying to bounce back following a loss to 12th-ranked Denison University, got off to a tough start after taking just one doubles match. The No. 2 team of Jay Dixit and Namit Misra won 8-3.

The other two matches were close as the No. 1 team of Anthony VanOyen and Arnav Yadav fell 8-6, and the No. 3 team of Shivam Dewan and Max Stratford fell 8-5.

Needing four singles wins now, the Scots won a pair of third set super tiebreakers in the No. 1 and No. 3 flights. Dixit won the No. 1 flight 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7), and Yadav won the No. 3 flight 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-0 (5).

In between, VanOyen won the No. 2 flight in straight sets 7-5, 6-3.

However, Wooster could not capture a win in the last three flights.

Dewan lost in the No. 4 flight 6-3, 6-0. Misra fell 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 flight, and Stratford lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.

With the win, Wabash wins its first attempt in NCAC play, moving to 9-6 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Wooster falls to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC.

Next, Wooster will head an hour south to face off against DePauw University on Sunday.
