Men's Tennis

Zachary Hasenyager enters his seventh year as the head men's tennis coach at The College of Wooster, and his impact was felt right away as the Fighting Scots capped his debut season with a No. 25 ranking in the final 2014-15 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Rankings, and a 10-10 overall record, while consistently squaring off against some of the region's elite programs.

During his six years thus far, Hasenyager mentored Titas Bera, who earned the North Coast Athletic Conference's Player of the Year award as a junior, and was selected for a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship upon graduation. Additionally, alumni Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins broke the College's all-time record for most wins as a doubles' team in 2017, and in 2019, the program ended the season back in the ITA Central Region Rankings.

Prior to Wooster, Hasenyager (pronounced HOSS-en-yay-gur), served as a graduate assistant coach at Redlands, an academically selective Div. III school located in southern California, where he helped lead the Bulldogs to 27 wins over his last two seasons with the program, while playing a national-caliber schedule that resulted in Intercollegiate Tennis Association final rankings of No. 14 (2013) and No. 21 (2014), and individually, he trained an All-American as well as a number of All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorees.

With Hasenyager largely responsible for bringing in top-25 recruiting classes, including No. 12 in 2013, according to tennisrecruiting.net, Redlands maintained its status as a national power, and now Hasenyager's goal is to employ those same coaching and recruiting skills to bring Wooster back to similar status. The Fighting Scots had eight finishes in the ITA national rankings from 1983-99 and won four North Coast Athletic Conference championships (1985, 1989, 1990, 1996).

Prior to coaching at Redlands, Hasenyager spent three years as a professional tennis instructor at the Bainbridge Athletic Club in Bainbridge Island, Washington, where he developed a program for high-level juniors, ran United States Tennis Association league clinics, and taught the sport to all skill levels among other duties.

Hasenyager was a doubles specialist as a player for Redlands while also contributing in singles during his junior and senior seasons. The Bulldogs qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championships every year (2005-08), and achieved final rankings of No. 5 (2005), No. 7 (2006), No. 17 (2007), and No. 12 (2008).

A standout in the classroom, Hasenyager earned Phi Beta Kappa honors, receiving a bachelor's degree from Redlands with a major in managerial studies and economics, and was a three-time ITA Scholar-Athlete. He also completed a master's degree in business administration at Redlands.

In addition to his time on the West Coast, Hasenyager has roots in the Midwest as he resided in Indiana for nine years, graduating from Carmel High School. Also of note, he was born in Hawaii and lived there for nine years.
