Wooster Softball to Host "StrikeOut Cancer" Event

The College of Wooster softball team will be participating in "StrikeOut Cancer" this weekend, as they partner up with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and the American Cancer Society to raise awareness about cancer.

This Friday during Wooster's doubleheader with Wittenberg University, the team will be accepting donations that will go towards finding a cure for cancer, and more specifically to The Benefit of Mason O'Donnell. This past summer, a child of a woman in the softball community, 2-year-old Mason, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. All donations collected at Friday's games will go towards helping Mason, and other children affected by the disease.

Fans will be able to make donations in two ways, by either making a flat donation, or by pledging a dollar (or cents) amount for each time a specific statistic is recorded during the softball games. The categories available to pledge on will be Wooster's total hits, runs scored, and pitcher strikeouts.

Also noteworthy, Wooster's softball players will be wearing orange, which is the color used to support leukemia.

The action starts at 3:30 p.m., with a second game starting around 5:30 p.m. Along with the "StrikeOut Cancer" campaign, the team will also be raffling off floor seats to a 2011-12 Cleveland Cavaliers home game.
