The College of Wooster scored nine runs three times this week, including back-to-back 9-1 victories on Monday, as the Fighting Scots sit at 3-5 at the midway point of their spring break trip at Fort Myers, Fla.

Following an uncharacteristic start to their opening two games in Florida, the Scots' offense erupted for 18 runs over the next two, which included a program record 20-hit game against New Jersey City University.

Nine different players recorded hits in that contest, with six notching multiple hits, including Paige Goldberg, who went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate to join teammate Demi Hart as the only players in program history to produce five-hit games.

Carly Schoenstein was also zeroed in during Wooster's record-breaking performance, as she went 4-for-5 with two RBI, while Linea Brouse, Hart, Georgia Hill, and Jenna Kendall each collected two hits.

Prior to that 9-1 triumph, the Scots downed Bethany Lutheran College by the exact same score, with this win coming in just six innings thanks to the run rule. Schoenstein stood out going 4-for-4 at the dish, and combined with the aforementioned 4-for-5 outing against New Jersey City, she had an impressive eight-hit day.

Wooster's third nine-run effort came Wednesday in a 9-3 win over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, which saw Goldberg, Hill, and Schoenstein each hit triples to lead the attack.

The new-look pitching staff has done its part with a combined 1.53 ERA, although the defense has let them down at times. Newcomer Kate Edgehouse has a 1.29 ERA with 16 strikeouts and just two walks over 28 innings, including a six-strikeout game against Bethany Lutheran, while sophomore Jenna Hunkins (2.45 ERA) fanned five batters during a complete game victory over New Jersey City.

Overall, Goldberg is off to a scorching start to the season with a .536 batting average (15-for-28) and Schoenstein has been productive as well at .357 (10-for-28). Also making strong impressions during their initial collegiate opportunities are Brouse at .500 (7-for-14) and Hill at .429 (6-for-14). The Scots have totaled 13 extra base hits, including two doubles from Stephenie Little, and nine stolen bases, with Skye Patterson and Kristyn Swanson swiping two bags apiece.

Wooster will move to the second half of its spring break trip Saturday afternoon when it squares off with the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 1 p.m.
