Like most teams that have played Wittenberg University this season, The College of Wooster struggled against the Tigers strong pitching staff, which resulted in 11-1 and 10-2 setbacks for the Fighting Scots on Tuesday in a doubleheader at Springfield, Ohio.

The Tigers (12-2, 2-0 NCAC) are allowing just 1.45 runs per game so far this spring, and that held true against the Scots (10-11, 0-2 NCAC), who were uncharacteristically quiet offensively in the difficult match-up.

In the opener, Wooster was trailing 1-0 when Georgia Hill led off the second inning with a double, and moments later, Stephenie Little smacked an RBI single to straightaway center which tied the score at 1-1. That was all the Wittenberg's Rachel Ross gave Wooster, though, as she didn't allow another hit from that point on, while the Tigers' bats exploded for an eight-run third inning which sealed the outcome.

Then in the nightcap, Wooster took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Linea Brouse doubled and later came around to score on an error. Wittenberg tacked on three of its own runs in the third, but the Scots pulled within one run, 3-2, when Hill plated Skye Patterson with a single in the bottom of the third frame.

Just like the first game, Wooster was done in by another big inning, as Wittenberg scored six times in the fifth to lock up a 10-2 triumph.

Brouse and Hill paced Wooster's offense with two hits on the day, while Paige Goldberg, Little, Patterson, and Taylor Raybuck each collected singles during the doubleheader.

One silver lining for the pitching staff came from Kate Edgehouse, who struck out six batters in 4.2 innings.

Wooster will look to move forward when it visits Case Western Reserve University (13-9) for a pair of games on Saturday at 1 p.m.
