The College of Wooster batted around a bit against Case Western Reserve University in the opening game of a doubleheader, which was highlighted by a five-run third inning, but ultimately, the Spartans took that one 14-6 and the nightcap 9-1 on Saturday at Mather Park in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Spartans (17-9) had everything working for them in the beginning of the first game, as they scored 11 runs in just two innings of work to build a comfortable cushion.

The Scots (10-13) made things interesting in the third frame, though, as three-consecutive singles by Skye Patterson, Paige Goldberg, and Linea Brouse loaded the bases, and Demi Hart drew a walk to score a run. From there, Jenna Kendall and Marissa Gorvet hit RBI singles and Aundrea Atwell drove in a pair with a shot to left field, which capped off Wooster's five-run inning to make it 11-5.

That was as close as Wooster got to overtaking Case, although Kendall did tack on another run with a double that plated Hart in the fifth inning.

The second game was looking like a pitching duel until the fourth inning, as Wooster led 1-0 through three frames thanks to Stephenie Little's RBI in the top of the second. Then the Spartans erupted to the tune of eight runs in the fourth, although none of the runs were earned due to two miscues by Wooster's defense.

Overall, eight different Scots recorded hits on the afternoon, with Goldberg (3-for-7) and Kendall (2-for-3) tallying multiple hits.

Next, Wooster gets back to North Coast Athletic Conference play when it visits Allegheny College (6-13, 1-1NCAC) for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
