Hill Slugs Two Homers, but Scots Drop Pair at Marietta

The College of Wooster's Georgia Hill set a new program record for home runs in a single season, as she hit her fifth and sixth round-trippers of the spring in the second game of a doubleheader at Marietta College, but in the end, it wasn't enough to prevent the Pioneers sweep over the Fighting Scots, 10-0 and 7-5, on Sunday afternoon at Marietta, Ohio.

Hill has been especially dominant in recent games, as just yesterday she hit a home run and put another deep shot off the top off the outfield wall, but settled for a double. She was back at it again today, as she deposited two pitches over the left field fence to push her season total to six, which passes former Scot standout Maria Gonzalez, who hit five home runs during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, for first-place all-time in the team's record book.

Hill's second homer pulled Wooster (10-19) within 7-3 in the sixth inning of game two, and then in the seventh, the Scots nearly came from behind to split the series.

Jenna Kendall got the final frame started with a single up the middle, and two batters later, Skye Patterson singled to right field, which allowed Kendall to motor all the way to third after a fielding error. With runners on the corners, Paige Goldberg hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4, although Patterson was gunned down trying to get to third on the play.

Now with two outs, Linea Brouse got on base and advanced to second thanks to another Marietta miscue, which also enabled Goldberg to come around and score to make it a two-run game (7-5). Unfortunately, with the winning run at the plate, Wooster popped up to the pitcher to end the game.

Freshman pitcher Rylee Bouillion made just the fourth start of her career and had mixed results, as she did let up nine hits, although eight were singles, and was only responsible for four of the seven runs scored. Hill entered in relief and pitched 2.1 innings of one-hit ball.

The opener featured a dominant performance from Marietta's ace, Alexis O'Hair, who gave up just one hit to Carly Schoenstein and struck out three in a five-inning victory.

Hill paced the offense with a 3-for-3 effort in the second game, which included her two historic home runs, while Patterson went 2-for-3 with a run scored in that game as well.

Wooster will be looking to get back into the win column when it hosts a doubleheader with Ohio Wesleyan University (14-12, 4-4 NCAC) on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
