WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster's uncharacteristic losing streak came to an end in an exciting way Wednesday evening, as the Fighting Scots scored three runs in the seventh inning, which included clutch hits from Carly Schoenstein and Georgia Hill, to notch a 4-3 walk-off victory over Ohio Wesleyan University in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Battling Bishops edged out the Scots 3-2 in the opener.

Wooster's (11-20, 3-7 NCAC) pitchers kept the Scots competitive in both games, as they allowed just 12 hits (10 singles) on the day, but it was the typically-potent offense that wasn't providing the run support they needed to get over the hump.

That changed in the seventh inning of the second game, as Wooster's bats came alive to lead a come-from-behind win. Trailing 3-1, Taylor Raybuck led off the frame by drawing a walk. Skye Patterson was up next and she reached first on a fielder's choice, as the Bishops threw out Raybuck on the play.

Then it was Paige Goldberg's turn and she singled up the middle to put runners on first and second. Ohio Wesleyan's Sarah Flint struck out Wooster's next batter, one of her eight strikeouts in the game, but the Scots kept the rally alive despite having two outs against them.

First, Schoenstein crushed a double to the warning track in left field that plated Patterson and Goldberg and tied the game at 3-3. Then, with cleanup hitter Hill at the plate, a wild pitch allowed Schoenstein to advance to third. The very next pitch was right in Hill's wheelhouse, as she smashed what easily would have been a double to deep left field that scored Schoenstein and prompted a celebration at home plate.

Kate Edgehouse picked up the win in the circle, her fifth of the year, as she allowed just two earned runs on six hits and struck out three.

The opening game could have went either way as well, with both teams struggling to generate offense, but the Bishops scored two of their three runs on Wooster miscues, which proved to be the difference. Hill pitched her best game of the season, as she went seven innings, allowing six hits and one earned run.

Linea Brouse had an RBI single in the opener, and Raybuck scored the other run on a fielding error by Ohio Wesleyan as part of a 2-for-3 effort at the plate.

Also noteworthy, second baseman Patterson made several impressive defensive plays on the afternoon, including leaping and diving stops, while Raybuck had a memorable diving catch in left field.

The Scots will look to get a win streak going when they travel to Kenyon College (17-13, 2-8 NCAC) on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
