WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster used a 10-run first inning to cruise past Hiram College in the opener, and then withstood a late comeback bid in the second game, on its way to a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep, as the Fighting Scots' offense propelled them to 16-2 and 5-3 victories over the Terriers on a picturesque Saturday at Galpin Park.

To say the Scots (12-10, 3-1 NCAC) batted around against the Terriers (5-15, 2-4 NCAC) would be an understatement, especially in game one. Wooster not only made it through its entire lineup in the first inning, but five players batted twice, as the Scots dropped a 10-spot on Hiram in the opening frame.

With batters one through three reaching base on a walk, walk, and single, respectively, cleanup hitter Georgia Hill hit a bases-loaded single that plated a run and kicked off an electrifying inning. Up next was Stephenie Little, who drove in a pair with a double to deep right center.

Other notable at-bats in the inning included a Marissa Gorvet RBI-single that dropped into shallow center field, a bases-loaded walk from Taylor Raybuck, a two-run double down the right field line off the bat of Linea Brouse, Carly Schoenstein's RBI-single to left center, and Hill's second and third RBI's of the inning, this time when she smacked a double to left field.

The Scots added six more runs over the next three innings, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Schoenstein in the bottom of the fourth, which more than sealed the five-inning, run-rule shortened victory.

Maddy Chase picked up the win in the circle, as she surrendered just three hits and two runs while striking out a season-high five batters.

Wooster wasn't quite as explosive in game two, instead opting to steadily pull away from Hiram as the game wore on. Brouse drove a runner home with a single up the middle in the opening frame, and then Little homered over the right field fence to lead off the next inning and make it 2-0.

Wooster went ahead 3-0 in the fourth when Jenna Kendall lined an RBI-single to center field, and then Brouse made it 5-0 with a two-run single in the sixth.

Pitcher Kate Edgehouse had been lights out to that point, scattering just three harmless hits, but Hiram started to make some noise in the seventh. The Terriers pulled within two at 5-3, but Edgehouse induced a fielder's choice to end the game and notch her fifth win of the spring.

It was an eventful day for Paige Goldberg, as the senior catcher went 4-for-7 with five runs scored and three stolen bases. Already the program's all-time leader in hits (149) and runs scored (94), Goldberg moved into first-place in stolen bases with 30, passing Kate Kiley who had 28 swipes between the 2005-08 seasons.

Brouse was also all over the stat sheet, as she finished the doubleheader 5-for-6 with six RBI and three runs scored.

Wooster will look to keep it rolling when it visits Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday. The twinbill is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
