Wooster Drop Two at Franklin to Wrap Up Indiana Trip

The College of Wooster softball team lost 4-3 and 7-1 to Franklin College as part of a Sunday doubleheader at Franklin, Ind., with the Scots wrapping up a four-game weekend trip to Indiana.

In game one, Wooster (8-14) was held scoreless through six innings, but tied the game with a three-run top of the seventh.

Senior Stephenie Little opened with a leadoff single before subbing out for pinch runner Anna Blake. Next, senior Linea Brouse reached on an error at second base to put two on with no outs.

Sophomore Bridget Serrurier brought in both with a double to left field, before seniors Jenna Kendall and Rylee Bouillion struck out swinging and flied out, respectively.

With Serrurier still at second, first-year Taryn Kohlman knocked in the game-tying run with a single to center field before junior Maddy Chase popped up to second base to end the inning.

After a hit batter put one on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, a groundout from Franklin's Lauren Heubler advanced the winning run into the scoring position. On the next at-bat, Monica Collins hit a walk-off single.

For Wooster, Chase went 6.1 innings and allowed eight hits with no strikeouts. Meanwhile, Franklin's Olivia Paszek pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six.

In the second of the double feature, Franklin (13-7) capitalized on a three-run first inning, as that would be all the offense the Grizzlies needed to complete the sweep despite the Fighting Scots opening the scoring in the first inning.

In the leadoff role, Chase reached on a single before advancing to second on a groundout from Serrurier. First-year Marina Roski brought in the game's opening run with a single to center before Litte grounded into an inning-closing double play.

Franklin closed the game with one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, and two in the six, as Kendall gave up four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings, while Bouillion closed the remaining 2.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits.

Up next, the Scots open North Coast Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader at home against Hiram College (4-12) on Wednesday, April 8 starting at 3:30 p.m.
