Victoria Rumph, The College of Wooster softball team's head coach, is among the 22 athletes who advanced to the second phase of the selection process for Softball Canada's 2018 Women's National Team, the national sport organization announced last Friday.

"I am excited and honored to be one of the 22 Canadian athletes chosen to participate in the final selection camp," said Rumph. "Representing Canada, and wearing the Maple Leaf are things that I hold close to my heart. I am grateful for the opportunity to compete for a spot on the 2018 world championship team where we will fight to qualify for a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics."

Rumph, a member of Softball Canada's National Team since 2013, has competed for her native country at the Pan American Softball Championship, the World Cup of Softball, the Canadian Open, and most recently at the 2017 Japan Cup.

Rumph was one of 30 athletes at last week's preliminary selection camp held in Fort Myers, Fla. She'll head to Thousand Oaks, Calif. for the final selection camp, scheduled to take place May 30-June 10. The final selection camp will determine the roster for the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation Women's Softball World Championship that will take place Aug. 2-12 in Chiba, Japan.

Other major tournaments on the books for Softball Canada this year include the World Cup of Softball in Irvine, Calif. and the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia. After the selection camp, the Women's National Team will travel to Japan for a series of games against professional teams.
