Scots Drop Doubleheader to DePauw in NCAC Opener

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster softball team opened its North Coast Athletic Conference slate at home against defending conference tournament champion DePauw University, as the Tigers prevailed 6-0 and 12-1 on Friday afternoon at Galpin Park.

DePauw (6-14, 2-0 NCAC) arrived on an 11-game losing streak, with nine of its 14 losses coming against nationally-ranked competition.

The Fighting Scots (7-13, 0-2 NCAC) held the Tigers scoreless through the first two innings of the opener before DePauw capitalized on a four-run top of the third.

Senior Maddy Chase pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs and posting one strikeout. For DePauw, Julia Bork picked up her third win of the season with a complete-game shutout.

In the nightcap, the Scots opened the game's scoring off a sac fly RBI from sophomore Marina Roski, which scored Chase after she reached on a leadoff double to centerfield. The double marked Chase's 11th of the season, while Roski tallied her team-leading 16th RBI.

From there, it was all DePauw as the Tigers went on to post five runs in the fifth and seventh innings while adding a pair in the sixth.

First-year Olivia Johnson and Marissa Norgrove made appearances at the circle, led by Johnson's 5.2 innings pitched. Notably, first-year Torrey Totman recorded her first collegiate hit on a two-out single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth. 

Up next for Wooster, the Scots travel to Hiram College (7-9 NCAC) on Thursday, April 4, for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
