WOOSTER, Ohio – A game-ending home run from sophomore Marina Roski in the day's opener and a 4-6-3 game-ending double play in the nightcap were only a couple of highlights from The College of Wooster's sweep over Oberlin College on Tuesday afternoon at Galpin Park. 

The Fighting Scots (11-15, 4-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) put forth a stellar all-around performance in a 9-1 opening victory and came through with clutch fielding when it mattered most in a 6-5 win in the nightcap to get back to .500 in league play. 

In the opener, the Scots mounted seven combined runs in the fifth and sixth innings, capped off by a run-rule enforcing two-run homer from Roski, after having knocked in lone tallies in the first and fourth innings.

Senior Maddy Chase, who finished a combined 5-for-7 on the day with three doubles, opened the fifth inning's scoring with an RBI double – her second two-bagger of the game – to score first-year Rachel Ginsburg and give the Scots a 3-1 advantage.

Notably, Chase increased her single-season doubles total to 15, just one back of 2013 alumna Demi Hart's program-best mark. Additionally, Chase moved into third all-time for hits (135), and at 35 doubles, remains four back of Hart for most all-time.

Continuing with game one, the Scots added two more in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double from Roski and an RBI single from first-year Heidi Likins.

After a 6-4-3 double play in the top of the sixth and routine grounder to Roski at shortstop, Wooster tacked on four runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Sophomore Savanna Hitlan reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and subbed out for sophomore pinch runner Samantha Tromba. Up next, Ginsburg bunt singled for her second hit of the game before Chase flied out to right field to leave runners at the corners. From there, Ginsburg successfully stole second base with Tromba advancing home on the throw to give the Scots a 6-1 lead with two outs down. Then, first-year Emmalee Cooke doubled down the right-field line to score Ginsburg before Roski stepped up and launched her fifth home run of the season to end the game at 9-1 in six innings.

The homer marked Roski's seventh career shot, as she moved into a tie with alumnae Jenn Horton and Katelynn Caywood for fifth all-time in program history. Chase earned the win from the circle, throwing 6.0 innings of three-hit ball.

In the nightcap, Wooster put up a four-spot in the first inning and eventually took a 5-1 lead through five.

A steady Oberlin (6-18, 1-7 NCAC) comeback effort began in the sixth, however, after a two-run homer from Oberlin's Emily Tucci made it a 5-3 Wooster lead with no outs down. First-year Marissa Norgrove subbed in at pitcher for first-year Olivia Johnson and managed to get out of the inning unscathed as Wooster took a 6-3 lead heading into the seventh. 

A pair of Oberlin singles bookended a fielding error from Norgrove, and Oberlin cut the deficit to two with no outs down and runners at first and second.

After runners advancing on a wild pitch, Norgrove got her first out on a strikeout swinging from Tucci. Norgrove then loaded the bases with a walk, bringing Dani Pechthalt to the plate, who came into the at-bat 0-for-3 in the game.

Lo and behold, Pechthalt reached on a bloop single to right field, scoring just one and cutting the deficit to one with one out down. With the bases loaded, Oberlin's Leandre Glendenning stepped up and, hitless in her previous two at-bats, grounded into a game-ending 4-6-3 double play, with Cooke turning to Roski, who made the bang-bang throw to Hitlan at first. 

With the save, Norgrove surpassed '03 alumna Trish Gordon for most saves in a single-season as well as career saves with four.

Up next, Wooster hosts Denison University (12-6, 6-2 NCAC) on Saturday, April 14, with first pitch slated for 1 p.m.
