WOOSTER, Ohio - The College of Wooster softball team dropped a pair of 2-1 decisions to North Coast Athletic Conference foe Denison University on Friday afternoon at Galpin Park.

The sweep moved the Fightings Scots to 11-17 overall and 4-6 in the NCAC, while the Big Red improved to 14-6 and 8-2 in league play.

Senior Maddy Chase tallied Wooster's lone RBI in Game 1, going 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning after Denison tacked on a run the inning prior. Denison scored the go-ahead run in the sixth after a leadoff walk from Emilie Fisher, who went on to score from third base on a two-out double. Chase, who recorded the loss, went a full seven innings, striking out five and allowing just three hits.

In the nightcap, first-year Marissa Norgrove earned the start and gave up just one earned run through a full seven innings. Four different Scots reached base successfully in Game 2, led by a pair of hits from first-year Torrey Totman.

After five and a half innings, Wooster entered the bottom of the sixth down 2-0 but managed to halve the deficit on an RBI single from sophomore Marina Roski. The Scots ended up stranding Roski on first with one out down and could not conjure up the game-tying run the following inning, as Denison held on to maintain a third-place standing in the league entering the final two weeks of regular-season play.

Up next, Wooster travels to Allegheny College (10-11, 4-4 NCAC) on Wednesday, April 18, for a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
