The College of Wooster softball team fell 2-1 in 10 innings in Game 1 of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader with Allegheny College before succumbing to a consistent Gators' offensive showing as part of a 5-3 loss in Game 2 on Wednesday afternoon at the Robertson Complex in Meadville, Pa.

Senior Maddy Chase tied a season-high with seven strikeouts in 9.2 innings of work while not allowing a single earned run in the opener. Wooster (11-19, 4-8 NCAC) commenced the scoring in the top of the third after an RBI double to right field from first-year Emmalee Cooke scored classmate Olivia Johnson, who reached on a leadoff single to left field. The Gators (11-19, 4-8 NCAC) answered with a solo tally in the bottom half of the frame.

From there, both teams were held scoreless through the ninth inning, as Chase recorded three consecutive outs in four of the ensuing six innings. In the 10th, Wooster left a runner stranded at third and Allegheny took advantage with a game-winning sac fly to claim Game 1.

In the nightcap, sophomore Marina Roski launched a two-run homer in the top of the first, marking her sixth of the season to move into a tie for the most single-season home runs in the program history. Additionally, with seven home runs for her career, the All-NCAC shortstop moved into a tie for third all-time.

The Gators halved the deficit in the bottom half of the frame before taking the go-ahead lead with a pair of runs in the second inning. After additional solo runs in the third and fourth, Wooster got back to within two (5-3) with an RBI single from Roski. The Scots ran out of time and daylight, however, as the game was called due to darkness heading into the bottom of the sixth.

The Scots look to rebound on Sunday with a doubleheader at Heidelberg University (20-8, 10-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) starting at 1 p.m.
