The College of Wooster softball team came away with a series split against Heidelberg University on Sunday afternoon at Frann's Field in Tiffin, Ohio.

The Fighting Scots (12-20) topped Heidelberg 5-2 in the opener behind five innings of one-run ball from senior Maddy Chase. Wooster opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third before adding another pair in the fourth.

Junior Chelsea Copley gave Wooster the go-ahead lead with single up the middle in the third to score first-year Emmalee Cooke and Chase. Cooke came through an inning later with a bloop single to right center to score two and make it a 4-0 Wooster lead through four innings.

Both teams matched runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with Chase scoring first-year Torrey Totman in the sixth on a sacrifice fly to left field. Heidelberg added one run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the seventh, but could not conjure a comeback.

In the nightcap, the Scots gave up five runs in the first three innings. Wooster came to within two in the sixth innings after a 2 RBI single from Copley, which scored sophomore Marina Roski and Cooke, but the Student Princes added a run in the seventh to claim a 7-4 victory.

Up next, Wooster travels to Wittenberg University on Tuesday, April 24, with first pitch slated for 3:30 p.m.
