Maddy Chase

Senior Maddy Chase and sophomore Marina Roski of The College of Wooster softball team were named first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference, per a release by the league office Wednesday afternoon.

The announcement marks the first time since 2005 in which two or more Fighting Scots have made their way into the conference's top tier, with Chase selected as a utility player (1B/P) and Roski (SS) as an infielder.

Chase, who was last season's NCAC Player of the Year, totaled 56 hits – six behind her own single-season record set in 2017 – with a program record 17 doubles, 18 RBI, and a team-high 30 runs while batting .424 on the year. In conference play, Chase upped the ante with a .481 average and a first-team-high 26 hits. The Pleasant Prairie, Wis. native capped her record-setting career as the program's all-time batting average leader with a career mark of .396 while finishing top-three in on-base percentage (.432), runs (85), hits (154), and doubles (37). From the circle, Chase logged four wins with a 2.97 ERA, 67 strikeouts, and a .251 opponents' batting average. Also noteworthy, Chase, who earned first-team honors last season as part of her first career all-conference nod, is only the third player in program history to earn two first-team nominations and the second player to earn them in back-to-back seasons. 

Roski, who earned second-team honors last year after breaking the school-record with 113 assists at the shortstop position, continued her record-setting trends with a program-best eight home runs in 2018, including a pair of two-home run games against nationally-ranked Kean (March 13) and Ramapo (March 16). Additionally, Roski's 90 total bases in 2018 bested the previous single-season mark of 81 set by Kelley Johnson ('13) in 2010. A native of Diamond Bar, Calif., Roski finished with a .397 batting average, 52 hits, and 32 RBI while hitting .418 with 15 RBI in NCAC play. With 10 career home runs, Roski remains second all-time in the program's record books behind Maria Gonzalez's ('07) top mark of 11, while her .687 slugging percentage ranks second all-time for single-season bests, and just .002 behind Georgia Hill's mark of .689 set in 2014.
