Senior Salute: Rachel Ginsburg

Rachel Ginsburg sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Rachel Ginsburg, a history major from Dayton, Ohio. Ginsburg is a member of the softball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because I wanted a small, tight-knit community where I could thrive academically and play softball.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: To me, it means pushing yourself in everything you do while creating meaningful relationships with your team, coaches, and professors.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite academic memories have to be I.S. Mondays or presenting my Junior Independent Study. My favorite athletic memories have to be beating 15th-ranked SUNY Geneseo in 2020 or our team lip sync battles.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: I love being a part of something bigger than myself. Academic success is within the control of one person, but a successful team is dependent on a group of dedicated individuals actively working toward a similar set of goals. I love how this creates a team chemistry where everyone can form real bonds with each other on and off of the field. I also love how the Wooster athletic community supports one another.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I was a teaching apprentice for a first-year seminar course as a junior and also joined Wooster Hillel that year.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. J(ordan Walters), Dr. (Greg) Shaya, and Dr. (Ziying) You have all challenged me to be the best student that I can be while also acting as trustworthy mentors. I am very thankful to know them.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Coach (Victoria) Rumph, Coach (Paige) Summers, and Coach (Jeff) Bricker have all challenged and supported me in very different ways. Each of them has given me a piece of advice or an opportunity to grow that has inspired me to better myself. Their encouragement motivated me on many occasions to push through whatever athletic or academic difficulties I was having. I cannot thank them enough for what they have done for me on and off of the field.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study is focused on the American Holocaust narrative and whether American museums distort the genocide's distinctiveness for the purpose of visitor comprehension of the event itself.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: During my time as a Wooster student-athlete I was able to be a teaching apprentice, participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, go on spring break trips with the team to Florida, and many other things. My teaching apprenticeship gave me insight to the experiences of a professor, which was eye-opening to me. As a Wooster softball team member, I was on a team that went to the NCAC Tournament, set a program record for wins in a season, and was regularly challenged mentally and physically. I strongly believe that being on the team has pushed me to be the absolute best version of myself.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would say, be yourself, live in the moment, do your absolute best, and try new things.
