Scots Tally Six On All-NCAC Team; Jennings Named Newcomer of Year

All-NCAC softball selections The College of Wooster softball team collected six selections on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Teams as first-year Julia Jennings claimed NCAC Newcomer of the Year.

Jennings also was Wooster's lone first-team selection. She became the fourth Scot to receive Newcomer of the Year honors and the first since Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez did so in 2021.

Griffin-Sanchez joined first-year Emma Hetkey on the second team. Senior Addie Tagg and junior Rachael Dudziak claimed the pitcher spots on the third team, while junior catcher Kaydee Clark also was named a third team selection.

Jennings had a remarkable first year, breaking the single season program record with a .450 batting average. She led all conference hitters as did her average in conference games alone at .529 (27-for-51).

In NCAC games, she hit three doubles, scored five runs and collected nine RBI. She also reached base in every contest and recorded a hit in 13 of the 14 games. 

Jennings was also a stop gap at third base with a .961 fielding percentage, 26 putouts and 48 assists.

Griffin-Sanchez returns to the All-NCAC Team after being absent in her sophomore campaign. The junior batted .354 (17-for-48) in conference games with three home runs, two doubles and seven RBI.

All three of her home runs on the year came in conference play. Overall, she hit at a .290 (38-for-131) clip with five doubles and 17 RBI.

She also was the main base stealer for the Scots atop the lineup with 14 stolen bases. Playing at shortstop, she also put together a fielding percentage of .913.

Hetkey was another first-year to make an impact for the Scots in the lineup. She batted .326 (15-for-46) in conference games with three doubles and four RBI. 

Overall, she was second on the team with a .367 average (36-for-98) and added four doubles and seven RBI. She was also second on the team with 11 stolen bases.

Clark receives recognition for the first time in her second year as the starting backstop for the Scots. 

Clark batted .326 (15-for-46) in NCAC games with three doubles and five RBI. Overall, she was third on the team with a .331 average (41-for-124) with seven doubles and 16 RBI.

Clark caught 18 runners stealing including a conference leading seven in NCAC games and backed that with a .965 fielding percentage.

Tagg makes a back-to-back selection on the All-NCAC Team after being an honorable mention a year ago.

Tagg had her best year yet statistically on the mound, throwing 89 innings to the tune of a 4-5 record with a 3.70 ERA and one save. In conference games, she threw 32.1 innings with a 3.46 ERA.

The senior exceled in relief. She came out of the pen in all but three games and collectively stranded 19 of 21 inherited runners.

Though selected as a pitcher, Tagg also had a small sample size at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles.

Finally, Dudziak joined Tagg on the third team with the lowest ERA in NCAC games among Wooster's three pitchers. The junior threw 26.2 innings and accumulated a 3-1 record with a 2.63 ERA. 

She opened the season pitching a no-hitter in a non-conference win over Asbury University. Her best performance in conference play came in 4-1 win over Wittenberg University where she gave up one unearned run in a complete game performance.

Wooster concluded its season at 19-19 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC.
