Wooster Falls Twice at Ohio Northern

ADA – Not much was clicking for The College of Wooster softball team on Sunday as they suffered a pair of non-conference losses to Ohio Northern University, 6-1 and 8-1.

In game one, Wooster fell behind after a five-run second inning, which forced an early exit to first-year starter Tori Conner. However, she was hurt by an error and a passed ball which allowed just one of her runs to be earned.

Sophomore Lynnsey Delio filled in admirably, getting the last out of the inning and pitching the final 4.1 innings, giving up just one run and striking out two.

Wooster threatened in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and one out. First-year Brenna Haydu brought home the only run on a fielder's choice to shortstop.

Both teams recorded only five hits in the game.

Ohio Northern senior Kayla Runyon threw her third complete game to collect her third win of the year.

In game two, Ohio Northern jumped out even earlier with a four-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Sydney Motylinski.

Wooster's lone run came on a single up the middle from Julia Jennings.

Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez scored the run, while she and Emma Hetkey each recorded two hits in the game. Wooster had six hits to the Polar Bears' 13.

Senior Rachael Dudziak started and took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs in three innings. Delio pitched the last three innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out two.

Ohio Northern (10-8) had another complete game performance, this time from Taylor Keck, who improved to 2-0 on the year.

Wooster (7-13) will open North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday with a trip to Denison University.
