Wooster Drops First Dual Meet Decision of the Season to Case Western Reserve

The College of Wooster swimming and diving team squared off against a competitive squad in Case Western Reserve University, as the Spartans swept the Fighting Scots in their first dual meet defeat of the season on Friday evening at Veale Natatorium.

The men fell by a final tally of 70-167, while the women were outscored 79-163.

Sophomore Emma Fikse put in a standout performance for Wooster with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:59.42) before doubling down in the 500 free with a winning pace of 5:22.28. Junior teammate Maggie Layde put in a third-place showing in the 200 free (2:02.33) and the 200  butterfly (2:15.33).

First-year Alison Hsu took first place in the 200 backstroke (2:12.63) on top of a third-place time in the 200 IM (2:17.79), missing out on a runner-up finish by just 38 hundredths of a second.

On the men's end, senior Aaron Salzman claimed double-winner honors with winnings scores in the one meter (182.00) and three meter dives (178.70).

Senior sprinter Aaron Brown finished the 50 free with a second-place clip of 22.78, while sophomore Cameron Gelwicks took home a runner-up finish in the 200 IM (2:05.08).

The Scots return to action on Saturday afternoon as they play host to Hiram College at 1 p.m. at Timken Natatorium.
