Extremely talented swimmer who is a big-time challenger to the top of Wooster’s record board in a multitude of freestyle events.

2016-17: Anchored two big relays for the College, the second of which secured Wooster’s first top four finish at the NCAC Championships in a decade … Part of the record-setting 3:05.62 400 free relay that finished just over a second ahead of Wabash in the final event of the NCAC Championships … Swam the freestyle leg of Wooster’s all-conference third-place 400 medley relay that clocked in at 3:27.03 … Helped the 800 free relay lower its own school record to 6:49.56 at NCACs and place fourth … Individually, logged a trio of consolation final finishing in freestyle events, led by the 12th-place time of 1:41.68 in the 200-yard race … Was 13th in the 500 free (4:40.70) and 14th in the 100 free (49.98).

2015-16: Turned in a record-setting freshman campaign … Broke a 37-year-old Stan McDonald school record in first career NCAC Championships swim, turning in a 4:40.62 clip in the 500 free … Broke older brother, Conner’s, school record in the 200 free the very next day with a time of 1:42.90 in the prelims … Part of the school-record 800 free relay (6:56.38) that placed fourth at NCACs, breaking the 20-year-old program standard in the process … Earned a spot on the championship heat 400 free relay that took sixth with a time of 3:08.04 … Individually, placed 15th in both the 200 and 500 frees with times of 1:42.94 and 4:42.98 respectively in the consolation finals at NCACs … Also competed in the bonus heat of the 100 free, taking 22nd-place overall at 47.47.

Prior to Wooster: Two-time high school All-American and all-state honoree at Zionsville Community High School … Part of the state championship 400 free relay as a senior … Multi-time sectional champ.

Personal: Born Sept. 2, 1997 … Son of Jeff and Beth Gelwicks, and younger brother of alumnus swimming standout Conner (’17) … Majoring in economics.
