Men, Women Claim 20 Total First-Place Finishes, Sweep at Wooster Quad Meet

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams each grabbed 10 first-place claims at the four-team Wooster Quad meet on Saturday afternoon, with swimming events held at Ellen Shapiro Natatorium and diving events at Timken Natatorium.

The women totaled 200-plus point totals over each of the day's three opponents, which included Oberlin College, Ursuline College, and Wittenberg University, for the Saturday sweep. The men defeated Oberlin, 182-79, and Wittenberg, 166-92.

On the women's side, juniors Emma Fikse and Rachel Mandel won two races each, with Fikse taking the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.32) and the 100 free (55.27) while Mandel won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.65) and 200 breast (2:40.49).

Starting off the meet in the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Fikse, first-year Michelle Sayre, first-year Brooke Brown, and first-year Leah Jorn hit the wall at 1:54.53, just .22 seconds ahead of Wooster's "B" team for first-place honors.

Individual winners in the long-distance events included senior Sarah Padrutt's winning time of 11:13.15 in the 1,000 free and first-year Lexi Riley-DiPaolo's blue-ribbon time of 5:27.15 in the 500 free.

Sayre added an individual first-place time in the 100 back (1:01.99). First-year Hannah Langer won the 200 backstroke at 2:13.08 and first-year Anne Bowers posted a winning clip of 1:00.18 in the 100 butterfly

In the three-meter diving competition hosted at Timken Natatorium, sophomore Cleo Potter took home second place with a score of 150.35.

On the men's side, six different Scots helped contribute towards Wooster's 10 first-place claims.

Two winning relays and a quartet of double-win individuals sealed the sweep for Wooster.

Junior Cameron Gelwicks won the 200 free (1:45.36) and 100 free (47.83) while sophomore Eli Samuelson won the 100 back (56.51) and 200 back (2:03.49). Sophomore Trey Schopen took first-place in the 200 fly (2:03.59) and 100 fly (54.50) and junior Ryan Campbell won the 50 free (22.24) and 500 free (5:05.39).

Junior Griffin Campbell, first-year Wyatt Foss, Ryan Campbell and Schopen went 1:30.36 for top-honors in the 200 free relay while both Campbell's, Samuelson and Schopen won the 200 medley relay in 1:40.49.
