Close Women’s Finish Headlines Case Western Reserve Dual Meet

WOOSTER, Ohio – A 28-point difference delivered The College of Wooster women's swimming and diving team its first loss of the season while the men fell 178.5-58.5 as part of a dual meet against Case Western Reserve University on Friday evening at Timken Natatorium.

On the women's side, Case Western Reserve topped Wooster 133.5-105.5. Junior Emma Fikse claimed double-win honors with a first-place time in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.40) and the 500 free (5:24.76), the latter of which marked a one-two Wooster finish with senior Sarah Padrutt's second-place time of 5:27.11.

First-year Lexi Riley-DiPaolo recorded two wins as well, first in the 200 free (2:00.33) followed by a winning time of 55.52 in the 100 free. In the 200, Padrutt tied for second-place with a 2:02.29.

First-year Brooke Brown won the 50 free (25.70), just an inch ahead of senior Maggie Layde's runner-up time of 25.71.

First-year Anne Bowers won the 200 butterfly in 2:15.06, again followed by Layde's second-place time of 2:16.04.

First-year Cleo Potter posted third-place dives in the one-meter (133.0) and three-meter (175.10) competitions.

On the men's side, both junior Griffin Campbell and junior Ryan Campbell took home first-place times. Griffin's came in the 50 free, as he touched the wall at 22.57 while Ryan's came via a first-place tie in the 100 free (49.10). Ryan placed second in the 200 free (1:50.59) and junior Cameron Gelwicks took home runner-up honors in the 200 IM (2:04.45).

Up next, Wooster travels to Hiram College on Saturday, Nov. 4 for a 1 p.m. start time.
