Freestyle Events, Relays Lead the Way for Wooster Sweep at Hiram

The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams came away with a Saturday sweep at Hiram College, with the men defeating the Terriers 116-77 and the women 165-26.

Six first-place finishes guided the men while the women totaled 10 first-place times.

On the men's side, senior Matthew Pech won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 10:18.82. First-year Wyatt Foss won the 50 free (26.04) and junior Max Koch rounded out Saturday's freestyle winners with a first-place time of 4:41.12 in the 400-meters.

Sophomore Trey Schopen won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.38 and first-year Jordan Oss finished off individual blue-ribbon performances with a winning time of 1:05.33 in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Foss, Schopen, sophomore Tyler Hartman and junior Adam Chalek hit the wall at 1:44.89, good for first-place overall and nearly three seconds ahead of the runner-up team.

On the women's side, first-year Lexi Riley-DiPaolo came away with triple-win honors while classmate Kera Sells claimed two individual wins. Riley-DiPaolo won the 800 free (10:08.65) and 100 fly (1:13.00) before contributing in the winning 200 free relay, which consisted of sophomore Avery Pearson, first-year Michelle Sayre, and junior Kalla Sturonas. The quartet posted a winning time of 2:00.92.

Sells' individual blue ribbons came in the 200 free (2:21.08) and 400 free (4:55.26). Sophomore Megan Gross won the 50 free (30.33) while first-year Larissa Lamarca rounded up Wooster's freestyle wins with a winning time of 1:06.59 in the 100 free. Sophomore Alison Hsu won the 100 back (1:15.68) and first-year Brooke Brown won the 200 IM in 2:42.14).

In the 200 medley relay, Brown, Hsu, Sturonas and junior Rachel Mandel posted a winning time of 2:15.54.

Up next, Wooster hosts Westminster College on Saturday, Nov. 11 for a dual meet scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
