Wooster Relay Teams Put to Test in Opener

GAMBIER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in their first event of the 2018-19 season, the Kenyon College Relay Invitational, on Saturday.

As indicated by the title of the meet, every race featured a relay. The women finished second among seven teams with 74 points, while the men finished third at 66 points.

Kenyon scored 132 points on both the men's and women's rankings to finish first among the seven teams. Fellow North Coast Athletic Conference schools Ohio Wesleyan University, Wittenberg University and Oberlin College also competed at the event.

On the women's side, in the 200-yard breaststroke relay Wooster placed second as the team of Molly Likins, Rachel Mandel, Madison Whitman and Brooke Brown finished at 2:09.36.

The women finished third in the 3x500 yard freestyle relay as Nell Kacmarek, Emma Fikse and Sells ended with a time of 16:54.45.

Fikse, Anne Bowers, Kate Murphy and Brown finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 1:43.08.

The men's best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Burke Poeting, Cameron Gelwicks, Ryan Campbell and Trey Schopen raced to third place finish with a time of 1:28.04.

The team of Griffin Campbell, Poeting, Sam Muse and Doak Schultz finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:53.62.

Poeting, Wyatt Foss, Ryan Campbell and Gelwicks also have a fifth place showing in the 500 yard crescendo with a time of 4:16.22.

The men also had a sixth place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:39.10 behind the team of Schopen, Gelwicks, Griffin Campbell and Schultz.

Wooster will be back in the pool Nov. 3 when they host their first meet of the season as Hiram College, Notre Dame College and Thomas More College come to town.
