Two Pool Records Fall as Swimming and Diving Sweeps Westminster

The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams made a splash in the early season, sweeping Westminster College as two Timken Natatorium records fell on the afternoon. 

The women notched their 25th consecutive dual meet victory by a score of 209-78 while the men beat Westminster 201-95. The Scots combined for 25 event victories, including a sweep of the relays. 

Meanwhile, junior Ollie Bream broke the Timken Natatorium record in the 100 butterfly in a time of 59.15 seconds while senior Maddie Becker broke her own pool record in the 100 individual medley in 1:01.63. 

Bream added three other wins on the afternoon and Becker collected two of her own, starting with the opening 200 medley relay where they combined with juniors Izzy Bellefleur and Hallie Findlan to touch the wall in 1:53.41.

Bream added a career-best 25.56 time to win the 50 freestyle. Becker touched first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.89.

Findlan and sophomore Emma Humbert each notched a pair of wins, Findlan won in the 200 freestyle (2:00.96) and 100 freestyle (55.09) and Humbert in the 100 backstroke (career-best 1:03.84) and 200 backstroke (2:18.35). 

Other individual event victories came from sophomore Bailey Nickols in the 1,000 freestyle (11:41.91), first-year Becca Murray in the 200 butterfly (2:26.44), Bellefleur in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.87) and first-year Kate Peck in the 500 freestyle (career-best 5:28.58). 

The women capped off the afternoon by winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:44.00 with a team of Findlan, senior Emma Connors, junior JP Timken and Bream. 

On the men's side, sophomore Will Laymon, sophomore Boston Sullivan, senior Josh Pearson and sophomore Callum Glover got the afternoon started with a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:40.46.

Glover also added event wins in the 50 freestyle in 22.08 and the 100 butterfly in 54.36. Pearson beat out the competition in the 200 butterfly, winning in 1:57.97 while Sullivan won the 100 individual medley in 56.03. 

Both junior Ryan Gross and sophomore Blu Catanzaro won multiple events. Gross swam a career-best 5:04.89 to win the 500 freestyle and also claimed victory in the 200 freestyle in 1:50.08.

Catanzaro won both diving events, scoring 201.55 in the 1 meter and 204.95 in the 3 meter.

Junior Tucker Andrewjeski snagged the other individual event victory in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:01.52.

Gross, first-year Ethan Neuner, sophomore Will Laubacher and Glover capped off the afternoon with a win in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.17.
