Wooster Makes Quick Work of Ohio Wesleyan

Kate Peck, Wooster Swimming & Diving WOOSTER, Ohio – Sophomore Callum Glover toppled a Wes Bennett Timken Natatorium record that stood since 2000, and the Fighting Scots sent the seniors out in style, taking the senior recognition meet from Ohio Wesleyan University 168-39 (men) and 176-49 (women) on Saturday afternoon.

Bennett, the second-most decorated Scot at 13 All-American honors, went 47.29 at Timken Natatorium in 2000, and Glover bettered that with a time of 46.98 on Saturday. The first-place finish was one of three for Glover on the day, as the sophomore anchored the winning 200 medley relay (1:38.70) and had top honors in the 200 freestyle (1:48.19).

Wooster's unmatched depth enabled the Scots to have the top two relays in all four races. Sophomore Will Laymon, sophomore Boston Sullivan, and senior Josh Pearson joined Glover on the meet-opening 200 medley relay, that was backed up by a 1:41.44 turned in by junior Max Likins, junior Nathan Ferrence, first-year Ethan Neuner, and first-year Caleb Sun. On the women's side, senior Maddie Becker, junior Izzy Bellefleur, junior Ollie Bream, and junior Hallie Findlan won with a 1:53.37. First-year Tara McGovern, junior Abbey Quick, first-year Becca Murray, and sophomore Patricia Chen took second, stopping the clock at 2:02.15.

In the 200 freestyle relay, junior JP Timken, Chen, senior Emma Connors, and first-year Kate Peck surged to first-place with a time of 1:46.63. McGovern, sophomore Emma Humbert, junior Mariam Zayour, and first-year Charlotte Helm raced to second-place at 1:50.59. Sophomore Flynn Cowie, senior Ryan Gross, sophomore Will Laubacher, and Neuner took the men's 200 freestyle relay with a 1:31.41. Junior Isaac Shaker, junior Aiden Lentz, Likins, and Laymon capped the top-two relays with the runner-up time of 1:33.81 in the 200 freestyle.

Peck's relay success carried over to individual events, where the first-year was Wooster's distance ace on the day, posting winning times in the 500 freestyle (5:25.61) and 1,000 freestyle (11:05.55). The 1,000 freestyle was one of three events on the women's side where Wooster occupied the top-three places. Timken (11:06.28) and Connors (11:24.06) came in behind Peck.

Elsewhere, Bream-led events were another area where the Scots excelled. Becker (2:16.47) and Zayour (2:24.23) were the second- and third-place finishers behind Bream's winning 2:14.34 in the 200 individual medley. In the 100 freestyle, Connors (59.44) and sophomore Lacey Mindock (1:01.03) made it a podium sweep behind Bream's winning 55.94.

Findlan was a triple winner after taking first in the 50 freestyle (24.40) and 100 backstroke (1:01.21). Becker's 1:09.21 was the winning time in the 100 breaststroke, as was junior Cady Eakins' 144.55 points on the one-meter diving board.

Wooster's men swept the top-three places in four events, starting with the 1,000 freestyle. There, first-year Philipp Drappatz's 10:38.03 was followed by senior Garrett Morris' 10:59.90 and senior Jonah McGlumphy's 11:09.25. In the 50 freestyle, Neuner's 22.62 was followed by Gross (22.81) and Laubacher (23.09). Pearson-led events accounted for the other two podium sweeps. Sullivan (2:03.54) and junior Tucker Andrewjeski (2:04.37) were behind Pearson's 1:59.27 in the 200 individual medley, while Shaker (5:10.18) and junior Andre Yazhbin (5:19.96) followed Pearson's 4:55.13 in the finishing order of the 500 freestyle.

Likins won the 100 butterfly (55.20), Sullivan the 100 breaststroke (59.52) and sophomore Leo Edmonds-Doberenz the one-meter diving competition (251.35) to round out the winners.
