Becker, Connors Finish Careers Unbeaten in Dual Meets

In the last meet before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, The College of Wooster swimming and diving teams took three out of four victories as part of a double-dual meet with Oberlin College and Hiram College inside Timken Natatorium.

The women notched their 33rd consecutive dual meet victory by beating both Oberlin (176.5-78.5) and Hiram (211-35), while the men defeated Hiram (197-45) and fell to Oberlin (141-115). The sweep marked the fifth time in the last six years Wooster's women have gone undefeated in dual meets and the ninth time in the last 10 years going undefeated against NCAC schools. Meanwhile, seniors Maddie Becker and Emma Connors will finish their collegiate careers without the Scots ever losing a dual meet.

One Timken Natatorium record fell on the afternoon as Becker won 100 individual medley, beating out the competition in 1:01.32, which lowered her own record of 1:01.63. It was just one of four total victories that Becker recorded, as the senior won the 50 breaststroke (28.14), the 100 backstroke (1:08.98), and the 200 medley relay (1:55.15). Junior Izzy Bellefleur, junior Ollie Bream, and sophomore Patricia Chen also joined Becker on the winning relay.

Junior Hallie Findlan had a standout performance as well with victories in three individual events. Findlan touched first in the 50 backstroke (28.14), the 50 freestyle (24.56), and in the 100 freestyle (54.13). Bream also recorded multiple wins, sweeping the butterfly events with times of 27.01 seconds in the 50 and 1:00.71 in the 100.

The women won all but two events, with first-year Kate Peck claiming the 200 freestyle in 2:01.42. Sophomore Emma Humbert collected first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.87 and junior Cady Eakins totaled 154.25 points to win the three meter diving event.

On the men's side, three Scots recorded multiple victories. Senior Josh Pearson led the way, claiming the Scots' first victory in the 100 butterfly in 52.96 and then followed it up with a first-place finish in the 100 individual medley in 54.58. Pearson also finished as the runner-up in the 50 butterfly at 23.99.

Sophomore Callum Glover commanded the freestyle sprints, winning the 50 free in 21.46 and the 100 free in 47.27. Meanwhile, sophomore Noah McDonald swept the diving events, collecting 223.15 points to top the leaderboard on the one-meter board followed by 207.50 points in the three-meter diving.

Both relay teams had runner-up finishes, starting with the 200 medley relay team of sophomore Will Laymon, sophomore Boston Sullivan, Pearson, and Glover in 1:38.19. Closing out the afternoon was the quad of Glover, sophomore Will Laubacher, first-year Ethan Neuner, and junior Ryan Gross taking second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.76.

Gross had a pair of third-place finishes in individual events - the 200 freestyle in 1:49.32 and the 100 freestyle in 49.99. Sullivan also had a trio of podium finishes, finishing as the runner-up in both the 50 breaststroke (28.06) and the 100 breaststroke (1:00.77) and placing third in the 100 individual (56.02).

Junior Max Likins took third in the 100 butterfly in a time of 54.97, while Laymon placed third in the 100 backstroke in 56.31.

Wooster returns to action during the four-day NCAC Championships, hosted by Denison University Feb. 14-17 at Trumbull Aquatics Center.
