Riley Breaks 26-Year Old School Record at Greater Cleveland Championships

KateLynn Riley ran an 8.83 during the 55-meter hurdles to break a 26-year old school record in the event, highlighting The College of Wooster’s results at Friday night’s Greater Cleveland Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. As a team, the Fighting Scots finished sixth (men) and seventh (women) in the highly-competitive meet.

Riley’s 8.83 came during the preliminary heat, and her time was one-hundredth of a second faster than former Wooster All-American Charlene Kemp (8.84, 1983). That record had stood longer than any other in the Scots’ women’s track & field indoor history. Riley’s time in the finals was an 8.91, good for fourth-place.

In other women’s action, Ali Drushal cleared 9 feet, 6.25 inches to win the pole vault, while teammate Elizabeth Osborn came in fourth in the event (7 feet, 0.5 inches). Drushal also made a significant impact in the 400 meters via a fifth-place showing (1:06.01), one spot behind teammate Natasha Blaise (1:03.79). Another top-five effort was turned in by Elizabeth Wardrop, who tied for fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 7.75 inches).

Wooster’s best event of the night was the men’s triple jump, as Eric Dyer, Abram Moore, and Ramses Clements finished 1-2-3. Dyer hit 43 feet, 6 inches, Moore was also over 40 feet (40 feet, 9 inches), and Clements registered a 39 feet, 1.75 inches mark. Dyer added a fourth-place showing in the long jump (20 feet, 8 inches).

Also in the field, Robert McConnell was the runner-up in the pole vault (12 feet, 11.5 inches) and Jon Mathis came in third-place in the high jump (5 feet, 11.5 inches), while on the track, Will Setliff led the Scots with a third-place performance in the 500 meters (1:09.51) and Julian Mangano crossed fourth in the 800 meters (2:03.33).

Wooster’s season continues next Friday with the Denison Last-Chance Meet, starting at 5 p.m.
