The College of Wooster's men's and women's track and field teams combined for 17 top-three finishes at their own Fighting Scots Invitational, which gathered North Coast Athletic Conference schools Allegheny College, Denison University, Kenyon College, and Wittenberg University at the Scot Center on Saturday, and the highlights included the men's team placing second and the women breaking a 16-year-old program record.

The men's team scored 106 points, which only trailed rival Wittenberg (125), while Denison (98), Allegheny (93), and Kenyon (53) rounded out the results. The women's competition was very close, with Wooster finishing fourth (95.33), despite scoring within 10 points of first-place Allegheny (105). In second was Wittenberg (103), third was Denison (97.66), and fifth was Kenyon (89).

Matt Margida stood out on the men's side with a pair of victories in his signature throwing events. He came just shy of his own school record in the weight throw (42 feet, 9.75 inches) by hitting the mark at 41 feet, 0.25 inches, and he also won the shot put with 45 feet, 10.5 inches.

Also taking top honors in their respective events were Mark Stair in the high jump (6 feet, 5 inches) and Mason Mendenhall in the pole vault (11 feet, 6.25 inches), while David Brew placed second in the 400 meters (52.62), Morgan Clark took third in the 3000 meters (9:14.83), and Luke Hutchings-Goetz was third in the 5000 meters (15:35.81).

The men also grabbed two more third-place finishes in relay action, with Ben Kingstone, Mamoudou N'Diaye, Keir Pace, and Zach Towner crossing third in the 4x200 (1:35.57), and Brew, Roy Hadfield, Ryan Kish, and Tarik Welch doing the same in the 4x400 (3:37.34).

Over on the women's side, Kendra Shehy won the high jump (5 feet, 0.50 inches) and Kristina Reck triumphed in the pole vault (8 feet, 11.75 inches), but it was a second-place finish that was most noteworthy. The 4x400 relay team consisting of Ashley Huddson, Edith Anderson, Hilary Coady, and Lauren Buyan set a new school record in 4:11.13, which surpassed the old record set in 1998 (4:12.35).

Several runners from that relay were also successful in individual events, as Anderson placed second in the 400 meters (1:02.04), Buyan was second in the one-mile run (5:28.32), and Coady earned second-place honors in the long jump in 15 feet, 2.75 inches.

Other notables included Emily Reid's second-place effort in the 3000 meters (11:32.73) and the 4x200 relay team with Paris Nahas, Anderson, Tricia Hall, and Kara Johnson, who crossed the finish line third in 1:50.44.

The majority of Wooster's student-athletes will be back in action next weekend at the Denison Invitational, while a select few will compete in the heptathlon and pentathlon portions of the All-Ohio meet at Granville, Ohio.
