College of Wooster sophomore Hilary Coady finished third in the North Coast Athletic Conference pentathlon on Sunday and freshman Conor Maley placed eighth in the two-day heptathlon, as the multi-event competitions were held at Kenyon College over the weekend.
Coady, who earns all-conference honors via the top-three performance, reset her own school record in the event with 3,029 points, a 90-point improvement over her mark from last season. She began the competition by lowering another of her team records, as she covered the 60-meter hurdles in 9.46 seconds, six-hundredths of a second lower than her previous best (9.52) set just last week.
Out of the five individual events, Coady was the second-best finisher in three – the 60-meter hurdles, the shot put (30 feet, 10.25 inches), and the 800 meters (2:28.37). In the long jump, she produced the fourth-best mark (15 feet, 3.25 inches), and she tied for fifth in the high jump (4 feet, 8.25 inches).
Maley put forth a solid effort in his initial collegiate multi-event competition, scoring 3,322 points. Of the seven men's events, he stood out via a sixth-place of the 10 participants in the 1000 meters (3:01.57)
Both student-athletes scored team points for Wooster towards the NCAC Championships, Coady six for the women and Maley one for the men, which will take place on March 7-8.
