Hilary Coady placed second in the heptathlon during the multi-event portion of the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships this weekend, as she scored 4,451 points, just 11 points shy of the program record, which puts The College of Wooster's women's track and field team in second-place in the conference standings heading into next weekend's traditional events.

Her 4,451 points nearly reset a 31-year-old school record, as Darlene Kemp earned 4,462 points during the 1983 outdoor season.

Coady placed first in two of the seven events, and was second in two others, with the most exciting result coming in the 800 meter run. It was in that event where Coady crossed the finish line in 2:21.09, just five-hundredths of a second in front of Denison University's Aedin Brennan (2:21.14), who went on to win the heptathlon with 4,860 points.

Coady's other first-place finish was in the high jump (5 feet, 1.75 inches), while she added second-place performances in the 100 meter hurdles (15.50) and long jump (16 feet, 3.75 inches). She was also third in the shot put (31 feet, 9.25 inches), fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.37), and fifth in the javelin throw (89 feet, 2 inches).

Wooster's men's team also sent a representative, as first-year Conor Maley made his debut in the outdoor decathlon. Although his 4,861 points were not enough to earn team points, he did post strong results in two of the throwing events, finishing fourth of nine in both the discus (90 feet, 1 inch) and javelin (140 feet, 11 inches).

The rest of the Fighting Scots will be in action next weekend when the main portion of the NCAC Championships takes place at Oberlin, Ohio.
