The College of Wooster men's and women's track & field teams' season debut was a very successful one, as the Fighting Scots swept Oberlin College in a dual by scores of 77-66 (men) and 95-47 (women) and a school record was even broken inside the Scot Center on Friday night.

Sprinter Paris Nahas began her junior campaign in style, crossing the line in the 60 meters not only ahead of the eight other competitors but with a school record of 8.13 seconds, three hundredths of a second faster than teammate Kennedy Payne's 8.16 at last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.

Nahas was equally impressive in the 300 meters, taking that event in a 45.87 time, and she led off the winning 4x200 relay (1:51.27).

Also on the track, senior Ashley Huddson edged first-year teammate Gabrielle Neubauer at the finish to win the 500 meters, 1:27.30 to 1:27.60.

Four Wooster athletes won their events in the field – Jocelyn Lion, Elizabeth Obi, Ellen Sandin, and Kendra Shehy. Lion took top honors in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches), Obi in the triple jump (32 feet,  7.75 inches) during her collegiate debut, Sandin in the long jump (15 feet, 0.5 inches), and Shehy in the high jump (4 feet, 11.75 inches).

The men's competition featured two double winners for the Scots, both in the field – senior jumper Zach Towner and junior thrower Matt Margida. Towner swept the long jump (18 feet, 1 inch) and triple jump (39 feet, 3 inches), while Margida finished first in both the shot put (45 feet, 11.25 inches) and weight throw (45 feet, 9.75 inches), just ahead of sophomore transfer Eric Fenton in the latter (45 feet, 0.25 inches).

Supporting them with wins on the track were Thomas McGrath in the 300 meters (42.68) and John Lanz in the 500 (1:10.60).

Wooster will host a traditional multi-team event – the NCAC Quad – next Saturday, beginning with the field events at noon and the track at 2 p.m.
