Lauren Buyan was a double event winner, while Matt Margida and Paris Nahas lowered their school records set earlier this season in a combined three events, highlighting The College of Wooster track & field teams' day at the Kenyon College Classic in Gambier, Ohio, on Saturday.

Wooster's women's squad piled up 125 points for second-place in the seven-team field, not far behind champion Ohio Wesleyan University (157.5), while in the men's competition, the Fighting Scots were part of a tight middle pack of teams, securing fifth-place with 66 points.

Buyan finished first in both the 800 meters and the mile, leading groups of 21 and 24 competitors, respectively, as she covered the runs in 2:27.49 and 5:25.63. In the 800, she edged teammate Gabrielle Neubauer at the finish line as the first-year was runner-up (2:28.79), and Mackenzie Kellar, another member of the freshmen class, took fourth overall (2:29.27).

Nahas re-established her Wooster records in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. During the preliminaries of the 60, she set a new low at 8.09 and shaved another three-hundredths of a second off while sprinting to third in the finals (8.06). Nahas cut three-tenths of a second off her record in the 200 just last week and went lower again – nine-hundredths to be exact – while earning third-place (26.09) in that event as well.

Other strong performances for the Scot women consisted of a series of second-place efforts – Elizabeth Obi in the triple jump (33 feet, 6.75 inches), Kendra Shehy in the high jump (5 feet, 0.25 inches), and Taryn Szalay in the 60-meter hurdles (9.84) – and Heidi Strike's third-place performance in the long jump (15 feet, 11.5 inches).

Wooster stood out in the weight throw and 3000 meters of the men's portion of the meet. Margida led a 1-2-3 Scot contingent in the former, upping his school record to 46 feet, 3 inches, followed by teammates Eric Fenton (42 feet, 6 inches) and Tyler Catlin (42 feet, 1 inch).

Out of the 23 participants in the 3000, Wooster put three among the top-five as Alex Chabraja earned runner-up (9:04.02), Joe David fourth (9:05.77), and Derrick Marshall fifth (9:13.76).

Also of note, Shawn Bowman hit 20 feet, 6.5 inches in the long jump, good for second-place, and Blake Pecoraro and Albert Darling were fourth in the mile (4:35.03) and 5000 meters (16:27.15), respectively.

The Scots, other than multi-event athlete Hilary Coady, will now make final preparations for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, set to take place March 6-7 at DePauw University. Coady will compete in the pentathlon portion of the NCAC's on March 1, at Oberlin, Ohio.
