College of Wooster junior Hilary Coady broke her own school record in the women's indoor pentathlon on her way to second-place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, while sophomore Conor Maley picked up eighth-place points in the men's heptathlon over the weekend at John W. Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio.

Coady and her league rival, Denison University junior Aedin Brennan, were a notch above the competition, as they both finished among the top five in all five events, while winning two events apiece. When the smoke cleared, Coady had scored 3,364 points, over 150 more than her previous best (3,201), and Brennan was slightly better with 3,573.

First, Coady shaved significant time off her school record in the 60 meter hurdles, as she crossed the finish line in 9.29, besting the 9.42 she clocked at the All-Ohio Div. III Championships earlier this year.

She then competed in the high jump, where she was one of just three to clear the 5-foot mark (5 feet, 1.25 inches), which was good for third-place. Next, Coady finished second in the shot put with a heave of 33 feet, 4.5 inches, a significant improvement from last year's NCAC's (30 feet, 10.25 inches).

Coady's lowest score came in a fifth-place effort in the long jump (15 feet, 6.0 inches), although she was just an inch out of fourth-place, but she finished the pentathlon strong with a victory in the 800 meters in 2:21.80.

Maley, whose only other indoor multi-event experience came at the NCAC's a year ago, continued making strides with 3,556 points, up from his 3,322-point debut as a freshman. His best finish came in the 1,000 meters, where he took fifth-place in 2:59.39, and he also added seventh-place in the 60 meter hurdles (9.80).

Coady and Maley will join the rest of the Fighting Scots for the conclusion of the NCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday.
