The College of Wooster men's and women's track & field teams overcame sub-freezing temperatures and a highly-competitive field, consisting of primarily NCAA Div. II schools, to win both genders of the annual 11-team Wooster Invitational, held Friday and Saturday on campus.

Wooster's women's team piled up 211.5 points to finish 90 more than the runner-up and comfortably ahead of the likes of Div. II programs Edinboro University (92), Walsh University (79), and others.

The Fighting Scots had first-place finishers in seven individual events, including double winner Paris Nahas, who sprinted ahead of the fields in the 100 and 200 meters with very solid times of 12.57 and 25.99, considering the weather conditions.

Also on the track, Hilary Coady made her 2015 debut in the 400 hurdles after qualifying for the NCAA Div. III Championships in that event a season ago. Wooster's junior standout paced the competition by more than two seconds with a 1:04.64 winning time.

Another impressive effort on the track was turned in by Lauren Buyan, who was within striking distance of the stadium record in the 3000 meters, as she covered the distance in 11:34.30, about 12 seconds shy of the Carl B. Munson Track record, and also emerging victorious was teammate Mackenzie Kellar among the 17 participants in the 800 meters (2:34.83).

In the field, the Scots produced 1-2 finishes in the long jump and the triple jump. Katie Cameron edged Ellen Sandin and eight others in the former, 15 feet, 6.75 inches to 15 feet, 2.75 inches, and it was Elizabeth Obi with a winning mark of 31 feet, 10.75 inches in the latter, followed by Brigid O'Hara (30 feet, 8.25 inches).

Wooster's men's team was equally dominant, scoring an even 200 points to place well ahead of its nearest competition, Walsh (133).

The Scots did particularly well in the field, led by thrower Matt Margida, who earned top honors in the shot put (46 feet, 6.75 inches) and the discus (127 feet, 7 inches), while Evan Pannell, a four-year member of Wooster's basketball team, stood out in his collegiate track debut with a first-place effort in the long jump of 19 feet, 10.25 inches, right ahead of runner-up Shawn Bowman (19 feet, 7 inches).

Conor Maley and Charles VanDenburgh contributed valuable second-place points in the javelin (129 feet, 9 inches) and pole vault (10 feet, 11.75 inches), respectively.

Tarik Welch circled the track in 55.12 seconds for a victory in the 400 meters, Brady Bunnell led a Scot contingent in the 3000 (10:28.66), and Ben Kingstone and Jairaj Ranchod were runner-ups in large fields in the 100 and 800. Kingstone's sprint of 11.50 in the former put him second out of 14 and only one out of 25 competitors beat Ranchod's 2:06.72 time in the latter.

Wooster continues its outdoor season at the Oberlin Invitational next Saturday.
