Wooster's Youth Shines in Dual Meet with Oberlin

 Paris Nahas
 Antonio Bailey

Still between academic semesters, a small contingent of student-athletes from The College of Wooster's track and field program opened the 2016 campaign on Friday night with a dual meet against local North Coast Athletic Conference rival Oberlin College at the John W. Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio. Both scores were nearly identical with Oberlin's men's team winning 72-46, one point better than the Yeowomen's 71-46 victory.

Wooster's talented class of first-years showcased their potential as the freshmen combined for six first-place finishes. The Fighting Scot men in particular showcased a high degree of success with Wooster recording first-place outputs in four of the five individual running events.

First, Brian Lief clocked in at 4:41.21 in the mile, a performance that was followed by Cullen King's 55.38 in the 400 meters. Next, Antonio Bailey turned in a 7.35 60-meter dash that was soon followed by Jarret Art's 24.45 in the 200-meter dash.

On the women's side, Julia Higgins edged out teammate Dyese Osaze in the 400 meters with a time of 1:09.61. Carolyn Webster rounded out the first-place performances by first-years with top honors in the high jump, clearing 5 feet.

A duo of seniors turned in a big meet as well for Wooster. Paris Nahas was a double-winner on the evening in the 60-meter dash (8.33) and the 200-meter dash (28.23). Matt Margida placed first in the shot put (46 feet, 1.5 inches) and added second-place honors in the weight throw (38 feet, 7.75 inches).

The Scots had one first-place relay in the meet with Higgins, Nahas, Osze, and Webster teaming up to go 1:55.29 in the 4x200.

Next, Wooster returns home for two straight weekends, beginning with the NCAC Quad on Saturday, Jan. 23. Field events are slated for a noon start, with track events to follow, beginning at 2 p.m.
