For the third straight year The College of Wooster track & field teams set a new school record at the Bob Shannon Invitational at Granville, Ohio, as senior Tyler Catlin recorded a heave of 47 feet, 5.75 inches in the weight throw. The Fighting Scots would finish the meet seven in both the men's and women's team standings, recording 36.5 and 38 points respectively.

Catlin, who was coming off of a career-best toss of 45 feet, 7.25 inches set at last weekend's Fighting Scots Invitational, surpassed classmate Matt Margida's old mark of 46 feet, 2.75 inches set back at last year's NCAC Quad. Previously, senior sprinter Paris Nahas lowered her own school record in the 200 meters at the 2015 Bob Shannon Invitational, and set a new time to beat at the College in the 60-meter dash two years ago.

In the men's meet Carnegie Mellon took top honors in the 10-team field with 139 points, beating out nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University (124 points) and Ohio Wesleyan University (108 points). On the women's side, Baldwin Wallace University, ranked fifth nationally in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association indoor top-25 poll, distanced itself from runner-up Ohio Wesleyan by a 134.50-99 count with Carnegie Mellon University (89 points) finishing third.

Wooster's relays fared well on the day as the Scots turned in four second-place finishes.

First, the women's distance medley relay consisting of Eve Caudill, Mackenzie Kellar, Emani Kelley, and Collier Summay teamed up to turn in runner-up honors at 13:43.32. The near-same quartet of Caudill, Kellar, Kelley, and Julia Higgins clocked in at 4:20.39 in the 4x400 to finish second of eight entries.

In the women's 4x200 relay Higgins, Dyese Osaze, Taryn Szalay, and Erika Womack turned in a 1:53.51, and were just edged out by Baldwin Wallace's quartet (1:51.27) for top honors.

On the men's side, the distance medley relay consisting of Alex Chabraja, Jacob Denbeaux, Cullen King, and Brian Lief clocked in at 10:51.57, also good for second-place.

In the women's meet, Wooster has a trio of scorers in the triple jump led by Elizabeth Obi's fourth-place mark of 32 feet, 11.75 inches. Brigid O'Hara (31 feet, 6.5 inches) and Mallory Crane (31 feet, 1.25 inches) finished sixth and seventh respectively.

Crane's distance of 15 feet, 0.75 inches in the long jump (seventh) and Higgins' time of 2:33.88 in the 800 meters (seventh) rounded out the women's scorers.

In the men's meet, the Scots received a majority of their scoring from the throwers and distance runners.

Margida turned in the highest individual finish of the day for the men, with a fifth-place toss of 46 feet, 4.25 inches in the shot put. The senior also added a seventh-place heave of 43 feet, 10.5 inches in the weight throw, to back up Catlin's sixth-place throw.

On the track David Westcott's 9:30.79 in the 3000 meters took seventh, while Herbert Sizek crossed eighth in the 5000 meters (16:33.01).

Wooster's sprinters and hurdles also had a solid day at the competitive meet. Ben Kingstone just missed qualifying for the finals in the 60-meter dash, taking ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 7.33 seconds. Kaylin Warner's time of 9.59 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles was just five-hundredths of a second off of Ryan Kish's school record time of 9.54 seconds.

Wooster was without senior All-American Hilary Coady and first-year jumps standout Carolyn Webster who will be competing in tomorrow's All-Ohio pentathlon at Granville, Ohio.
