A highly-competitive field of 16 track & field teams, hosted by The College of Wooster, battled through adverse weather conditions, as high winds hindered the participants throughout the Wooster Invitational and a mixture of wintry precipitation fell late Saturday afternoon, and among those successfully overcoming those factors were the Fighting Scots, who put forth several strong performances to finish eighth (women) and 10th (men) at their annual outdoor meet.

Wooster senior Hilary Coady excelled in the harsh conditions, scoring in three events (top-eight), highlighted by a win in her specialty. The senior from Canada paced the field in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.11), an event in which she was an All-American a year ago, and also notched third-place in the 100 hurdles (15.08) and eighth-place out of 45 in the long jump (16 feet, 11.5 inches).

Complementing Coady in the 400 hurdles was first-year teammate Julia Higgins, who crossed the line seventh (1:11.02).

Savannah Moore, a two-sport standout, made her season debut in track & field a good one. The senior who was an all-conference volleyball player in the fall threw the discus 124 feet, good for third-place in a field of 37 competitors, while sophomore Elizabeth Obi matched her with a third-place in the triple jump (32 feet, 5.5 inches), followed by senior teammate Brigid O'Hara in fourth (31 feet, 4 inches).

Rounding out the Scots' scorers were first-year Carolyn Webster, who tied for fourth in the high jump (5 feet, 1.75 inches), and the 4x100 relay team consisting of Paris Nahas, Erika Womack, Taryn Szalay, and Kennedy Payne, who worked together for a fifth-place showing (51.41).

Headlining the results for Wooster's men's team were an event win and a school record. Zach Towner took top honors in the triple jump (40 feet, 7.75 inches), and fellow senior Tyler Catlin upped his own Wooster record in the hammer throw by about 11 feet while finishing sixth out of 34 in the event (161 feet, 1 inch).

Also in the field, freshman John Petrecca was the day's third-best high jumper (6 feet, 2.75 inches).

On the track, Brian Lief led the Scots as he covered the 1500 meters in 4:11.98 for a fifth-place showing among the 58 competitors. Additionally, fellow first-years David Westcott and Jacob Denbeaux were sixth and seventh in the steeplechase (10:02.77) and 800 meters (2:03.19), respectively.

Notable, the meet was cut short for the second time in three years due to the weather, but this time just two events were not completed – the men's and women's 4x400 relay.
