Coady's and Moore's Records Highlight Day One of NCAC Championships for Wooster

 Savannah Moore
 John Petrecca

Senior Savannah Moore earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors while breaking the school record in the discus, and classmate Hilary Coady improved on her own NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships' meet record in the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles to highlight the first day of the 2016 conference meet at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

Moore started the meet on a strong note for the Fighting Scots with a final-attempt heave of 131 feet, 1 inch. Moore, who earned third-place honors for her first track & field all-conference certificate, broke Katie Walker's 2001 record of 130 feet, 7 inches. Notable, she is the first women's thrower to earn all-conference laurels in the discus since Ada Smith did so at the 2005 meet.

Coady continued to excel in her specialty, and lowered her career-best time in the 400 hurdles to 1:01.43. The senior, who entered the meet already with the third-fastest time in Div. III this year, improved upon her meet record of 1:02.02 set at last year's championship.

John Petrecca led the way on the men's side on Friday. The freshman topped out at 6 feet, 3.25 inches in the high jump to take fourth, and just miss on an all-conference certificate.

Wooster also had scoring contribution on the women's side in the jumps with Elizabeth Obi's career-best triple jump (34 feet, 6.75 inches) garnering seventh-place honors.

Brian Lief delivered a big-meet performance for the men in the 800 meters, with his career-best 1:56.59 clip ranking second in the preliminary heats.

Wooster's women's 16 points rank seventh, while the men have five points and are in ninth-place, with a majority of the scoring events to come on Saturday.

The 2016 NCAC Championships conclude tomorrow with field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 2:15 p.m.
