Trio of Scots Compete at Final-Qualifying Meets

Senior standout Hilary Coady set a career-best in the long jump to lead a trio of student-athletes from The College of Wooster track & field teams at a pair of final-qualifying meets over the past two weeks.

Coady, who competed at the All-Great Lakes Elite Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University today, reached 17 feet, 9 inches, an improvement of nearly five inches from her previous best of 17 feet, 4.25 inches set two weeks ago at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.

Coady also competed in the 400-meter hurdles at OWU where she clocked in at 1:01.92 to take second.

Brian Lief represented the men's team at Ohio Wesleyan. He turned in a 2:03.82 in the 800 meters. Last week, Lief set a career-best in the 1,500 meters (4:03.36) at the 11th-Annual Gator Invitational hosted by Allegheny College at Meadville, Pa.

Wooster was also represented by Carolyn Webster at Allegheny, where the freshman sensation topped out at 5 feet, 3 inches to tie for first.

Wooster now awaits the official qualifiers for the NCAA Div. III Outdoor Championships which will be announced at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Coady currently has the third-highest heptathlon score (4,796 points) in Div. III in addition to the fifth-fastest 400-meter hurdles time (1:00.86).
