A small contingent of student-athletes from The College of Wooster's track and field program kick-started the 2017 campaign on Friday night at the non-scoring Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Oberlin College at the John W. Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio.

Wooster turned in a quartet of first-place finishes on the men's side, led by sophomore Brian Lief's winning time of 9:20.00 in the 3000 meters than was backed up by classmate Jackson Feinknopf's runner-up clip of 9:20.24.

Senior Conor Maley had a hand in two of the top showings with a 10.02 in the 60-meter hurdles, and later teamed up with sophomore Andrew Gold, first-year Nick Lines, and sophomore Jack Petrecca to deliver a 3:49.26 in the 4x400 relay. Maley also earned runner-up honors in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10.5 inches.

Petrecca rounded out the first-place honorees topping out at 6 feet, 2 inches in the high jump.

Of note, sophomore Justin Fox turned in a second-place time of 7.55 seconds in the 14-competitor 60 meters.

On the women's side, the Fighting Scots had a top-three finisher in each running event that Wooster had an entry in. Senior Taryn Szalay led the way with a first-place time in the 60-meter hurdles at 10.46. Younger sister Regan Szalay crossed third in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 28.11 and 1:04.13 respectively, while Taryn Szalay (28.59) and first-year Koral Kasnyik (1:07.62) backed up the younger Szalay's efforts with fourth-place times in the 200 and 400 meters respectively.

Other top three finishes were turned in by senior Dyese Osaze in the 60 meters (8.93), sophomore Rebecca Kreuzman in the mile (6:28.72), and senior Jackie White in the 3000 meters (12:25.81).

Wooster returns to action next Saturday at the Wooster Tri-Meet. Field events are slated for a noon start with running events set for 2:30 p.m.
