Sophomore Jacob Denbeaux garnered All-Ohio honors in the men's mile with a third-place time of 4:28.31 to headline the Fighting Scots' action at this weekend's All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio. The men finished 13th out of 18 teams while the women finished 17th of 17.
Denbeaux's indoor career-best of 4:28.31 beat out fourth-place finisher Matt O'Neil of the University of Mount Union by .29 seconds, as just .89 seconds separated the second- and fourth-place runners.
In other men's action, sophomore Jack Petrecca leaped to a scoring performance in the high jump, topping 6 feet, 4 inches in his final attempt at that height to finish tied for sixth. Matching Petrecca's sixth-place finish in the men's 800 meters was classmate Brian Lief, who crossed the line at 1:58.74, marking an indoor personal-best for the sophomore.
In the 5,000, sophomore Jackson Feinknopf rounded out the field, clocking in at 16:08.98 as the 16th-place runner.
On the women's side, sophomore Carolyn Webster scored in the women's high jump, topping 5 feet, 3 inches in her final attempt at that height to place seventh.
In the 60-meter hurdles, senior Taryn Szalay ran a personal-best 9.66, .06 seconds out of a championship heat qualifying spot as she finished in ninth overall, while Webster clocked in at 9.96, good for 13th.
Sticking with Webster, after fouling on her first two tries in the long jump, the sophomore went 16 feet, 8 inches to finish 11th, while senior teammate Katie Cameron followed closely behind, hitting 15 feet, 4.75 inches on her second try to finish in 13th-place.
Meanwhile, first-year Summer Robinson put in a scoring effort in the triple jump, leaping to 34 feet, 3 inches, as 2.75 inches separated the 4th- through 7th-place competitors, with Robinson finishing seventh. Junior teammate Elizabeth Obi posted her best jump on the day – 31 feet, 10.75 inches – on her third and final attempt as she placed 14th.
In the women's 4x200 relay, the quartet of Taryn Szalay, Regan Szalay, Emma Sullivan, and Koral Kasnyik crossed the line at 1:51.32.
Wooster returns to action next weekend at the Kenyon College Classic on Feb. 18.
