Webster Earns All-Conference Honors with Runner-Up Finish in NCAC Heptathlon

Carolyn Webster

Sophomore Carolyn Webster claimed runner-up honors in this weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Women's Heptathlon Championships after finishing the two-day event with 4,059 points on Sunday afternoon at Robert Kahn Track in Oberlin, Ohio.

Webster's second-place finish marked the fourth consecutive year in which a Fighting Scot finished as runner-up in the women's outdoor multi-event championship.

After becoming the first student-athlete in program history to win the league's indoor pentathlon earlier this year, Webster commenced the weekend's competition in prime form, leading the nine-competitor field with 2,444 points by Saturday's conclusion.

The sophomore opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.63) before winning the high jump at 5 feet, 3.75 inches. Next up, the sophomore claimed fourth-place in the shot put with a throw of 28 feet, 10.25 inches, and then closed the day with a third-place time of 28.46 in the 200 while holding a 117-point cushion over second-place Emily Brown of Ohio Wesleyan University.

On Sunday, Webster leaped to a second-place finish in the long jump (17 feet, 8 inches) before claiming another runner-up finish, this time in the javelin throw, with a best attempt of 95 feet, 4 inches.

With her lead trimmed to 32 points heading into the meet's final event – the 800 – Webster placed sixth with a time of 2:47.38, as Brown, who won the finale, jumped ahead to claim first-place overall with 4,229 points.

Up next, Webster joins the rest of her teammates as the Black and Gold take to Greencastle, Ind. for next weekend's NCAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by DePauw University on May 5-6.
